Each week I try to bring you a show that sheds light on some of the universal issues that many of us overachievers face in life. Things like maximizing our potential, challenging our own status quo, figuring out how to balance work, life, and play. I believe that you are the expert on yourself, but we are always in a place of learning from each other.
With that in mind, I have invited Kevin Kepple to the show today. He’s a Gallup-certified strengths coach, and I have questions about that. Kevin works with leaders, teaching them how to unlock their leadership code by leveraging their unique genius. Wouldn’t that be nice? Guess what, it's in there waiting for you. I’m also excited because Kevin and I share some common hobbies, including hiking, endurance sports, and being one of those super motivated and positive people in the world who want to help others feel alive and happy. The fifth habit of Stephen Covey's “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, is to seek first to understand, then to be understood. It’s a great reminder for interacting with others, but do you listen to understand yourself?
In this week’s episode, Alix is sharing how seeking to understand her self-talk and thoughts before responding to them led her to take a different, unexpected course in her journey to greater life balance. Can you relate?
I’m sure you’ve heard before, real change begins on the inside, and when it comes to transforming your entire life, it’s those internal shifts in perspective that can make space for a new way of living, thinking, and being.
My guest today has become an expert in doing just that. Ann Hince has developed the ability to sense inside her body in ways that help her transform both her emotional and physical self. And when I first heard that, I was thinking the same thing you might be now. How can the way you perceive yourself change your physical self? She’s learned how to release physical tension stored in her connective tissue, using solely the focus of her mind, and she has x-rays to show the physical changes resulting from this inner work - including changing the alignment of her eye sockets, the straightening of her neck, the centering of her lower jaw, and the growth of her tooth roots. She has also grown 3/4 an inch at the age of 55. Ann wants us all to know that we have this incredible power within us, it just takes going further with practices that you may already be doing.
My guest today is Eileen Greene, a 93 year old empowered and fearless woman who strongly believes that there's no age limit to achieving your goals and dreams.
After raising her three sons, Eileen went on an unrelenting campaign to educate herself and experience life to the fullest; earning her bachelor’s degree from California State University, at the young age of 50. Since then Eileen has gone on to become One of the first people to be certified in NLP by Tony Robbins, received her Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology, Complete a 2 year program in Volunteer Work from University of Judaism, and became Certified in Interior Design, and Became certified Hypnotherapist, Her Ted Talk (at the age of 87) focused on how it’s never too late to do anything your heart wants you to do in this lifetime…except when it is. Today she is an active Life Coach, Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapeutic methods to help her clients. her biggest message: that we are all going to go, some of us sooner rather than later, but while you are still here, you have an opportunity to contribute. What are your “coulda, shouda, woudas”? No matter your age, make your list, pick one and do it now.
My guest today is Leslie Davis, and if you’re a go-getting over-achieving accomplishment junkie like me, you’re going to LOVE HER. She told me that about 20 years ago I came up with a mantra that I did not want to be 80 years old, sitting on my front porch saying, “I wish I would have.”
Since turning 50, she has taken up scuba diving, gone riding in a hot air balloon, traveled to Zimbabwe multiple times by herself, gone on about 10 mission trips, lost almost 100 lbs, taken up weight lifting, written 8 books, quit a job that was killing her and learned more about life than she did in college. She just turned 65 and she ain’t slowing down yet. Today we’re going to talk about how she discovered how to change her mindset, take real control of her life and release the things and people she did not have control of. And, I have three takeaways from her parenting advice that we can use on ourselves! Check out Leslie at www.youcanteatlove.com
This week is a bit of a how it started/how it’s going episode with our friend Alix. If you don’t know, Alix is spending 2022 working on better balance in her life, and sharing her experience on the podcast so we can all learn and grow in our own lives.
In our last conversation, Alix was focused on prioritizing self care during the wild west days of summer as a mom of young kids, when every week is different and life can feel like more of a roller coaster than usual. Today, we will check in to find out how it’s going, what she learned, and how she is shifting gears for fall. Can you relate?
We all have things that we dwell on, cringing to ourselves when we think back to stupid, embarassing, or regretful choices we’ve made. In fact, the feeling of regret has been identified as an emotion we feel as early as the age of two year old.
Especially for those of us who identify as perfectionists, we can really beat ourselves up for not choosing what we realize later would have been a wiser option. I probably should have majored in something different, should have gone to law school, should have started contributing to my retirement a lot earlier. We all have those woulda coulda shoulda moments. In this episode, I am exploring how thanking ourselves for the dumb things we’ve done can be part of our path out of regret and into new energy. Oh, and I mention a guided meditation that was a game changer for me. Here it is! GUIDED MEDITATION - Overcome Guilt
Today my guest is Winnie Bien Aime, Founder and CEO of Thrive Unburdened, a mental health counseling and life coaching company serving some of the unique needs in our mental health space. Winnie is a licensed mental health therapist providing services to clients living in Alaska, Florida, and Louisiana.
Winnie works primarily with teenage girls and women struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma related issues. Her approach to therapy is one that is holistic, drawing on theories such as cognitive behavior therapy, Schema Therapy, and Adlerian Therapy principles to help my clients work through their challenges. She also recently began utilizing Brainspotting, and I have a lot of questions about that! We talk about raising teenagers - how to understand them, empathize, and recall what our teenage life was like. And, how to support our teens through the brave process of thriving unburdened. You can contact Winnie at www.thriveunburdened.com
Today my guest is Lisa DeLugo, a fellow podcaster who is also a runner, a mom, a business owner, and the owner of Ella-Go, where she empowers women through fitness, health and everything in between. But beyond that, she is a single mom with an active daughter, who started a journey to better health in her 30's, proving that it is never too late to start something new.
Now she’s like us, juggling work, motherhood, life stress, all the things. She is a certified running coach, health coach and life coach. The reason I asked her here today is because her story is one that you need to hear. We talk about advocating for yourself when doctors ignore your concerns. And, how you know when a marriage needs to change. How to start over on your own as a single mom while still finding a way to make space for self care. Pop in your ear buds and listen - you’ll be energized and empowered for the entire day!
Hear from Erik and Joanna Olsen, founders of Whirly Board, a startup company that began in a small-town Wisconsin garage in 2014 and founded on the belief that time spent riding a board is directly proportional to quality of life. And we talk about that, but also about how these two entrepreneurs, who are also married and parents of two, balance work, life, growth, and their own health and sense of purpose. This is a great episode for anyone who wants to chase their dreams and needs a dose of inspiration to go for it!
